Key Takeaways
- RateSwitch™ is a new Solar Club feature that automatically moves members between their HI and LO rates based on Pre-Bill data.
- It switches you to your HI Rate when you become a net exporter and to your LO Rate when you become a net importer.
- You must be at a microgeneration site and on a Solar Club HI or LO Rate to use it.
- The launch runs in two phases: an email and a Google Form to enroll early between December 2025 and February 2026, then a My Account toggle in spring 2026.
- The first automatic switches occur on the February 2026 bill runs, ahead of the spring switching season.
- Some switches may not be optimal because of data issues such as cancellations and rebills, missing data, or misaligned import and export dates.
What is RateSwitch™?
RateSwitch™ is automatic rate switching for Solar Club members, and it is the next step in the evolution of our Pre-Bill feature. RateSwitch uses your Pre-Bill data to determine the optimal dates for switching between rates and then automates that process for you, so you no longer have to track and time the changes yourself.
When is RateSwitch launching?
RateSwitch is launching in two phases.
In Phase 1, which runs from December 2025 to February 2026, all Solar Club members will receive an email to get started. That email explains how RateSwitch works, provides some documents to read, and contains a link to a Google Form you can fill out to enroll early.
In Phase 2, in spring 2026, we will update the My Account portal with a toggle so you can activate it whenever you choose.
How does RateSwitch work?
RateSwitch automatically switches you between the HI and LO rates of your Membership Group whenever your net status changes. Through Pre-Bill, you already receive monthly updates showing whether you will be a net importer on your next invoice, a net exporter on your next invoice, or whether no data is available. RateSwitch takes that one step further by acting on those updates for you.
- If your status changes from importer to exporter, you will be switched to your Membership Group’s HI Rate.
- If your status changes from exporter to importer, you will be switched to your Membership Group’s LO Rate.
- If we have not received data from your wires company and your status shows no data available, no switch will occur.
- If your status does not change from one month to the next, no switch will occur.
Because RateSwitch flips you between the HI Rate and the LO Rate, you must be on a Solar Club rate to access this feature. You can manually submit a rate change to another Solar Club rate at any time, which will override the system temporarily. If you manually switch to a regular fixed rate or a variable rate, RateSwitch will stop.
What do I need to qualify for RateSwitch?
You need to meet three conditions to access the feature. Only sites designated for microgeneration are eligible. You must be on a Solar Club HI Rate or LO Rate because Pre-Solar Rates are not eligible, and you must acknowledge that you have read and understood the terms and conditions.
What are the potential risks?
By opting in to RateSwitch, you acknowledge that the system will initiate rate switches on your behalf based on data received from the wires company, and there will be instances where that data leads to switches that are not optimal. Such anomalies include the following.
- Cancel and rebills
- Missing data
- Misalignment of import and export dates
It is worth noting that in some rural areas, wires companies also depend on telecommunications to access meter data rather than sending a truck to read a single meter. Wires companies and the Solar Club make every available effort to validate and verify data before bill runs occur, but sometimes little gremlins slip through the cracks. Before you sign up, please read our terms and conditions.
How do I sign up?
You sign up by enrolling with an Energy Marketer who offers Solar Club rates and getting on a Solar Club HI Rate or LO Rate. If that is already done, then you are well on your way to taking advantage of RateSwitch. In a few months, you will be able to toggle RateSwitch on or off from your My Account portal.
What happens next?
The first round of automatic rate switches will occur on the February 2026 bill runs, in time for the spring switching season. This marks an exciting new chapter for the Solar Club, one that will further propel it beyond the reach of our competitors. As one of our most highly requested features, we are delighted to bring RateSwitch to life for you.
